# Grid operators

GridShield, ElaadNL's last-resort signal to scale down consumption on a congested cable or transformer, with an EdgeTech controller and receiver tested against ElaadNL's implementation in both directions.

## What GridShield does

When a neighbourhood on one cable or transformer draws too much, the grid operator's controller broadcasts a reduce signal over LoRa point-to-point. Every GridShield receiver behind it scales its chargers and heat pumps down. It is the last resort that keeps the network inside its limits when contracts and prices have not.

## What EdgeTech supplies

- A **controller** that measures the connection and sends the signal, or forwards the grid operator's signal.
- A **receiver** that limits EdgeTech and compatible chargers over Modbus and other loads over two relays, including SG-Ready heat pumps.
- Interoperability tested against ElaadNL's implementation in both directions.
- Chargers and site controllers that respect contracted limits and congestion windows through the platform.
